SACRAMENTO -- If you had problems voting in the June 6 primary election, a state Senate committee wants to hear about it -- and there's a toll-free number to call.
The Senate Select Committee on the Integrity of Elections, which will hold a public hearing on the issue in Bakersfield Monday, announced that Kern County voters with voting problems to talk about can call 888-828-3855.
Voters can call the committee or e-mail it at Election.Integrity @sen.ca.gov whether or not they want to testify at the hearing, scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at the County Administrative Building Board of Supervisors chambers, 1115 Truxtun Ave.
"If people had problems casting a ballot during the June primary, I want to hear from them," said the chairwoman of the panel, state Sen. Debra Bowen, D-Redondo Beach.
The committee is holding the first in a series of hearings on voting problems in Bakersfield because Kern County experienced some of the worst problems in the state. Some voting machines did not work properly when polling places opened that day and many voters were told to come back later.
In addition to chairing the committee, Bowen is also campaigning to unseat Republican Secretary of State Bruce McPherson, California's top election official.
